I found it!!

I don't know about you, but I've been searching for a good foundation ever since I started wearing makeup. My mom got me a rather expensive brand of foundation when I first started wearing makeup, and it worked for a while, but the as it aged it got more yellow-y and felt heavier and more oily on my skin. It also wore off really fast. Which sucked, because we thought that the more expensive brand would be better, right? Wrong. Then my mom stopped buying my makeup so I had to forge my own way (I went the drugstore route, pauper slash penny-pincher that I am) One dried out my skin. Another was too oily. All of them were to yellow, or too pink, or too dark. None of them were worth my money. And then I found Loreal Paris's true match foundation. The search is officially over! It goes on sheer, but it's buildible. It stays on well without a primer. It never feels oily, and it sinks into your skin instead of sitting on top of it. It feels like your skin, and it looks like your skin, but it's a smoother, softer, more even-toned, more awesome version of your skin. My life just changed. I am amazed. And It's $8.99. And there are 32 shades, last I checked, so you can find your perfect shade. Seriosuly, if you have had a bad history with foundation, go get this, you will be amazed.

Thoughts on Isaiah 51:7-8

7“Hear me, you who know what is right,
you people who have my law in your hearts:
Do not fear the reproach of men
or be terrified by their insults.
8For the moth will eat them up like a garment;
the worm will devour them like wool.
But my righteousness will last forever,
my salvation through all generations

Verse 7a- This part of the verse is just really encouraging to me. Because I know God, I KNOW what is right. He has implanted in me a sixth sense of discernment, and it is my choice to either listen to it or ignore it.

Verse 7b-8- I love this section so much!! It's just kind of a wakeup call for me. we spend so much time worrying what others think about us, whether they like us or not, if they think we're pretty/funny/smart, etc. but NONE OF THAT MATTERS!! It doesn't matter how cruel or how crazy or how oppressing the world is, men are powerless compared to God. They are nothing. They can torment you here on earth, but they'll never be able to do anything to your soul unless you let go of your hold of God. And once you get to heaven, they can't even try to do anything to you. Think of it this way: your life here is not even a tiny section of your whole life, but this is the opportunity God has given to you to choose to fear Him. When you deliberately choose to glorify God in spite of the circumstances and all the other options that are thrown at you here on earth, God will reward you with something EVERLASTING. Something untouchable. Unending fellowship with Him. Does that not sound amazing??

So, in the end, God defeats the bad guys that have been tormenting you your whole mortal life and whisks you away to His everlasting, unending paradise where you get to forget all the trauma that happened to you on earth and spend forever-forever!- with the God that created the universe, was always there for you, always listened, who cried when you cried, who laughed when you laughed, who loves you unconditionally, who loved you so much that He sacrificed his son-His son!! For you!! He loves you that much.

So I would say He's worth paying attention to.

So I jut got back from a day of hanging out with some of my closest friends, and it was AWESOME!! It just hit me how amazing each individual is and how different each relationship is. What I love though is that we all have our own inside jokes and different history and experiences together. For instance, with one of my friends, I just yell out a state name and she starts cracking up laughing. Another one I can call lil' indian. With a different one, I just mention doing ANYTHING in the kitchen and we both die laughing. Another one and I refer to everything intensely cool as "pretty book." So. Awesome. It just blows me away how rad my friends are!! So to all just mentioned and countless others that remained unmentioned, thank you for making my life 100% more awesome :) you guys rock!!

No-Heat Waves

This hairdo is ridiculously easy!! There is nothing so amazingly simple as waking up and spending a maximum of 30 seconds on your hair. For those of you who don't usually shower at night, beleive me, for this hairdo, it's worth it!!

The night before: Brush your hair BEFORE you shower. Use a moisturizing conditioner. After letting your hair dry slightly, part your hair where you want it to be parted the next day.GENTLY finger-comb through your hair (hair is more prone to breakage when it's wet, so don't use a brush.) Section your hair into 4-8 sections (the larger the section, the looser the waves. I tried 8 the other night and it looked like I had crimped my hair, and same with 6.) Braid each section tightly and secure with a small elastic. Spritz some loose hold spray gel over each braid and go to sleep :)

The next morning: Take out each braid and gently finger-comb through each one. run some anti-frizz cream through your hair and use more spray gel only if needed.

Braided Bun

This is my go-to hairdo right next to the messy side braid. It's almost as fast and looks really cool!! Prep your hair like you would for the messy side braid, but then make three small braids in place of one, and secure with clear elastics. Twist all three together until they fold on themselves and secure with bobby pins. And you're done!!

Simple Summer Beauty

So recently I discovered how ridiculous liquid foundation looked and felt during warm weather… it takes way longer to apply, too. And I’m also going to several camps and a mission trip, so I’m not really wanting to be fussing with my makeup. So, I devised a summer makeup routine for myself. It involves four makeup items and can be added to or subtracted too accordingly.
First, apply a concealer to dark circles and any places where you tend to get red (nose, chin, etc.)Blend with either your fingers or a brush, whichever you prefer. Then, using a fluffy brush, blend a translucent powder foundation over your face, focusing mainly your T-zone, where you tend to get oily. Apply a waterproof brown eyeliner to your waterline and thickly around your upper lashline. Blend like a maniac. (It should end up looking less like an eyeliner and more like a matte eyeshadow.) Set by tapping a little bit of your face powder over the top with your finger. (This will keep it from creasing  and help it stay put longer.) Apply two coats of waterproof mascara to top and bottom lashes, and you’re done!! Simple, fast, unfussy beauty for the most sweltering, humid, oven-like days of summer.

Copper Smoky Eye

Start with working a primer over you lid and blend it up to your brow bone. Take whatever is left and smooth it under your eye. Pat a bronze shadow over the outer three quarters of the eye, and run whatever is left on the brush under your lower lashline. Pat a gold shadow on the inner corner and blend towards the middle. With a deep brown shadow, trace the outer half of your lashline, and draw a wide triangle on the outer corner of your eye. Blend in. Using a black liner, draw a scalene triangle on your upper lashline. Finish with two coats of black mascara.

On Job

So a few of my girlfriends and I are reading through Job right now, and some of them are getting bored with it (Understandably so!! Most of the book consists of Job talking about how much his life sucks.) But allow me to gush: personally, I think Job is amazing. In the first chapter of the book, it talks about how Job is righteous, and how he “is blameless and upright, a man who fears God and shuns evil.” Then Satan comes along, and long story short, God gives Satan permission to torment Job. In one day, Job loses his ALL his livestock (pretty much the equivalent of wealth in those days) ALL his servants, and his sons and daughters. All his wealth is gone, and his family is dead. All he is left with is the skeleton of a house and a wife who gives him horrible advice and no comfort. Not long after all this happens, Satan strikes Job down with “painful sores from the soles of his feet to the top of his head.” So now he is in a state of excruciating physical and emotional pain. He curses the day of his birth, and goes on for what seems like forever about how crappy his life is… but he still chooses to praise God. Here’s an example of that from chapter 9:

4His wisdom is profound, his power is vast.

Who has resisted him and come out unscathed?

5He moves mountains without their knowing it

and overturns them in his anger.

6He shakes the earth from its place

and makes its pillars tremble.

7He speaks to the sun and it does not shine;

he seals off the light of the stars.

8He alone stretches out the heavens

and treads on the waves of the sea.

9He is the Maker of the Bear and Orion,

the Pleiades and the constellations of the south.

10He performs wonders that cannot be fathomed,

miracles that cannot be counted.

11When he passes me, I cannot see him;

when he goes by, I cannot perceive him.

12If he snatches away, who can stop him?

Who can say to him, ‘What are you doing?’

Job understands completely that God is awesome and beyond comprehension: he understands that God has a plan and is working through Job’s suffering, and is using it to teach him. This guy gets it. Do we ever respond this way though? What happens to your relationship with God when you’re going through a rough spot? Do you still choose to praise God?

Quick Fix

For Sunburns!!

Well, maybe it's not so quick, but it's worth the wait. Anyways,

I got this awkwardly shaped sunburn on my shoulder on Sunday, and it still hasn't gone away. Still. And, it's a very red, very sore one. So, in my desperation to heal it and ease the pain, i came upon a genius idea- Aloe Vera ice cubes. The best!! It's pretty self explanatory; you just pump some aloe vera into an ice cube tray and wait a couple hours. The result is these awesome green sci-fi looking lumps of sunburn deliverance. Just rub it over your horrifically red skin, give a sigh of relief, and remind yourself to wear sunscreen next time. :)

Look I'm Into

The of-course-I-got-8-hours-of-sleep makeup-

As memories of the blissful laziness of spring break fade into a black hole of oblivion and the shackles of normal life settle into place, I am finding myself in an unending state of exhaustion. The amount of sleep I get on a normal night is ridiculously low, and the time it takes to cover up the obvious signs of exhaustion chips yet more precious minutes from my sleep. The solution: rather forceful and top-heavy black eyeliner and blush. These two makeup items make you look instantly more awake, and infinitely better rested. In the end, this makeup look provides a solution for the multitude of people who constantly make comments about how tired you look. The equivalent of eight hours of sleep in about 30 seconds

Thoughts on Isaiah 51:3

"The LORD will surely comfort Zion and will look with compassion on all her ruins; he will make her deserts like Eden, her wastelands like the garden of the LORD. Joy and gladness will be found in her, thanksgiving and the sound of singing."
God finds us in our ruin and dispair and changes us into something beautiful. He seeks us out when we have turned away from Him. When the sins we have chased after leave us empty and broken, God comes and rescues us, restoring our hope and joy, making us whole. When we turn back to God, He makes us beautiful again.

Thoughts on Isaiah 51:2

2look to Abraham, your father,
and to Sarah, who gave you birth.
When I called him he was but one,
and I blessed him and made him many.
Our walk with God changes us. Abraham sought out God, and God blessed him amazingly, surprising him with descendants that outnumbered the stars. The whole "come as you are and never change" thing is totally a lie. When you truly surrender your life to God, it is impossible to expect not to change. We cannot continue sinning and still carry on a deep fellowship with Christ. God cannot stand sin, but He desires a deep relationship with you, so He takes you in the palm of His hand and chisels away the sin; the crappy attitude, the lies, the impurities, the secrets, EVERYTHING, and He makes you new. This is a daily occurrence that is paired with true surrender to Christ.

Thoughts on Isaiah 51:1

1“Listen to me, you who pursue righteousness
and who seek the Lord:
Look to the rock from which you were cut
and to the quarry from which you were hewn;

As followers of Christ, we need to constantly be pursuing righteousness, seeking out God in everything we do. We are called to look to Him in both times of joy and trials. Are you constantly looking to God, are you constantly in a state of worship and joy because of what He has done for us??

The Messy Side Braid

This hairdo makes me feel very artsy. It's amazingly simple, too, and the longer you wear it, the better it gets!!
Get the look-
Flip your head upside down and either spritz it with hairspray or massage in mousse to give it volume and texture. Tease if that works for you. Sweep sections of hair back from your face and pin the with bobby pins to create shape. Work the braid over your shoulder and secure with an elastic, leaving about two inches of hair free at the end of the braid. Tousle with your fingers until it looks good to you, and hairspray.

Quick Fix

De-pilling Coats
So I have this peacoat. It's Black. I also have a lot of animals. They shed. For some reason, all the animal fur in the house ends up on my coat, and lint rollers don't help because the hairs somehow weave themselves in with the fabric. The coat is also a hand-me-down from one of my sisters, so it's formed those really annoying little pill things all over the surface. The whole inter-woven hair thing plus the pilling i have going on makes my coat just look...well, really crappy. Solution: take a Scotch Bright scrubber and run it along your coat. I figured this one out all by myself tonight, and it works like magic!! It de-pills and gets all the stubborn hairs out of your coat, so it ends up looking brand new :)

How To Survive in Washington

The dead of winter is hard. Especially when you live in a state where winter draws itself out into what's supposed to be spring. Here's how to pull yourself out of the gloom:
-Listen to music all the time.
-Spritz on a floral or citrusy scent that you usually reserve for summer.
-Go buy yourself a mango and either eat it raw, or turn it into a killer smoothie.
-Wear something bright.
-Buy yorself some bronzer and a bright shade of blush.

Quick Fix

Chapped Lips-
Take about a Tablespoon of sugar in the palm of your hand and mix it with just enough water to make a thick paste. Rub this all over yor lips with your finger until all of the mixture is gone. Rinse any stray sugar off, dry your lips, and then coat them with a no-nonsense balm like Carmax. Viola! Soft lips :)

On Snow White's Song

"I'm wishing for the one I love to find me today..."

Ok so first of all, Snow White didn't know prince charming when she was singing this song. And Snow White's voice is probably one of the most obnoxious I have ever heard, so if I were prince charming, I would have ran. Once the prince shows up to sing a duet with Snow White, Snow White says "Oh!" in her insanely annoying voice and runs to the castle to take refuge. This forces me to ask: is it really love at first sight if your first instinct is to run? There's a valuable lesson to be learned here, ladies. If Prince Charming scares you, he is probably not Prince Charming.

Look I'm Into

Everyday Natural-

This look manages to appear pulled together without trying too hard. It works best with a messy side-braid or a loose bun. Fast and easy but still beautiful. Bam!!

Get the look-

Prep your face with a tinted moisturizer and concealer if you need it. Swirl a rosy blush just on the apples of your cheeks. Prime your lids and blend a neutral color, like a light shade of espresso, over your lids. Blend a lighter shade of shimmery beige into the inner corner of your eye and upward into the crease, continuing up to the brow bone if you want. Line your upper lids with a black crayon liner, creating a slanted line that widens towards the outer edge of your eye. Set with the same espresso you used on your lid, smudging slightly as you go. Skip lining the bottom. Curl your eyelashes and sweep on two coats of lengthening black mascara, top and bottom. Finish the look with a subtle nude lip gloss.
